How to transfer domain names

Four steps to transfer your domain

  1. Sign up
Click to transfer your existing domain, and complete the sign up process. Then, notify your administrative contact for the domain name that it is being transferred. Superpages.com, through a partnership with Register.com, will send an email to your administrative contact to approve the transfer request.

  2. Administrator approval
Your current registrar will need to authorize, or process, the transfer. They will most likely send an email to your administrative contact asking for approval to transfer the domain. Your current registrar will then send the approval notice to the domain registry. The domain registry will contact Superpages.com to let us know that the transfer has been approved.

  3. Registrar authorization
Your domain name should be easy to say, spell and remember. Shorter is better. You can use abbreviations for your business name, just don't abbreviate it so much that it loses all meaning.

  4. Transfer complete
We will complete the transfer on your behalf and the Internet will begin to recognize the new location of your transferred domain name. It typically takes 24 to 48 hours for a domain to be updated throughout the Internet. You may not be able to view your Web site before this process is complete.

Domain transfers are usually completed within five days after approval by the administrative contact, unless the current registrar of record denies the request. Once a transfer takes place, you will not be able to transfer it again for 60 days, apart from a transfer back to the original registrar.
