Things we are doing…
SuperMedia was one of the first publishers to sign the Yellow Pages Association and Association of Directory Publishers Joint Environmental Guidelines, which underscores our commitment to environmental responsibility. You can view the guidelines at

Reuse - The paper we use for directories is a clear example of reused material…
- Our books are printed on paper containing up to 40% post-consumer recycled fiber
- When available, the remaining paper content comes from wood chips and pulp—waste products of the lumber industry
- SuperMedia buys paper from vendors who demonstrate sound environmental practices
Reduce - We continue to look for ways to reduce the amount of paper we use…
- Promote our online local search engine, www.superpages.com
- Provide directories on CD-ROM to large business customers
- Adjust the size of directories for more efficient use of printing presses and to reduce waste
- Reduce directory paper weight
- Use computerized systems that use directory page space more efficiently to reduce paper consumption
- Manage paper inventory to reduce stock
Recycle - We make it easy to recycle our directories…
- The inks our printers use are environmentally sound, which allows our directories to be recycled because the ink is biodegradable
- There are many secondary uses for recycled directories: environmentally friendly cellulose insulation, new paper, packing material, animal bedding, compost, tissue-grade products, wallboard, envelopes, hydro-mulch and roll cores
- Directory distribution bags can be recycled by manufacturers of composites made from waste wood fiber and reclaimed plastics to use for decking and fencing
- We sell our salvaged materials to companies who recycle the materials into new products
- We recycle in our own facilities
- Many of our directories include a Recycling Guide, which provides information about how and where to recycle directories
Ways you can help…
Recycle Yellow Pages
The Verizon
® Yellow Pages can be recycled into a wide variety of materials. That is why we want you to join us in the campaign to recycle outdated directories. The best—and easiest—way to recycle your phone book is to put it in your curbside bin. If your community does not have curbside recycling, you can recycle through a community resource.
